Easy Raspberry Syrup Recipe
How to Make Syrup with Raspberries

This Easy Raspberry Syrup Recipe makes a great topping for ice cream, sorbet, or pudding or an additive for a refreshing drink or smoothie. If you want more syrup, you can easily increase the ingredient amounts to make the desired quantity of syrup.

For a very special dessert presentation, try squirtting a "zigzag" of fruit syrup on a dessert plate prior to adding the dessert itself, (for example cheesecake, or another type of cake). Then add the dessert on top, and you have a great looking dessert! Fun!

Ingredients

3 cups fresh red raspberries
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup water

Directions

In a pan, combine the raspberries, sugar, and water and cook over medium-high heat.

Reduce heat to medium-low, and allow mixture to simmer for about 5 - 8 minutes, stirring very frequently to avoid sticking and burning.

Remove berry mixture from heat, and allow it to cool for about 15 minutes.

Strain mixture through a fine sieve, pressing down on the solids with the backside of a spoon to extract the liquid.

Keep refrigerated until ready to use.

Makes about 1 cup of Raspberry Syrup.

It is also possible to purchase ready-made syrup. This is obviously a convenient way to have berry syrup on hand, (keeps very well in fridge), without the time and effort of making home-made syrup from raspberries.

Here are some of the available Syrups. Note that it is also possible to purchase Sugar Free Berry Syrup, made with Splenda:

These syrups are commonly used for flavouring in iced tea, coffee, lattes, smoothies, lemonade, soy milk, or drizzled over fresh fruit.
